Clothes Line Prayers
Clothes Line Prayers give your children an opportunity to share their artwork as they lead the prayers during worship.
Let’s lead the prayers using paper dolls, creation works-of-art and a clothes line! Paper dolls are hung on the clothes line to remind us of God’s care and concern for the joys and sorrows in people’s lives. Creation artwork is hung on the clothes line to celebrate God creativity and care for all of creation, the big and small.
Theme: Prayer and God’s loving care for all creation.
Characters: Leader and 6 children to read rhymes, plus 5-10 kids to hang things on the clothes line and the option to expand the parts to include more children or combine the parts for fewer children.
Song: Teach Me Your Way – this mellow echo song includes sign language
Performance time: 5 minutes Price
Here’s a Clothes Line Prayers script excerpt:
(clothes line holders take their places and stretch the 1st section of the paper doll clothes line across the front – 2 groups of friends)
Leader: God of relationships, thank you for the connections and friendships we have in our lives. Keep us mindful that there are those around us who wish that they had a good friend. May our friendship circles always have room for one more!
(2 children come forward & use clothes pins to add their paper dolls to the friend groups on the clothes line)
(clothes line holders move across the front revealing the 2nd section of the paper doll clothes line – upside down paper dolls)
God of comfort and presence, today we remember people we know whose lives have been turned upside down by job loss, broken relationships and sickness.
(1 child uses clothes pins to add another upside down paper doll to the clothes line)
(clothes line holders move across the front revealing the 3rd section of the paper doll clothes line – paper dolls that all look the same)
God of surprises, sometimes we spend all of our time with people who look and think like we do.
(1 child uses clothes pins to add a sparkly paper doll to the clothes line)
We invite you to send people our way who sparkle and are passionate and willing to tell us about new things that can make our world bigger.
(clothes line holders stretch out the 1st section of the creation clothes line – grass, flowers & bugs)
(as the following rhyme is read, 1 child adds a flower to the clothes line)
Child: We thank you, O God,
for the things in the world
that remind us to look at our feet.
The grass and the flowers,
the bugs and the ants,
They’re yours, and we think they are neat!
(full prayer and song are approximately 5 minutes long)
